Each engagement is scoped in writing around the needs of the collection. No two are alike, and none begin until you are ready.
Collection strategy
Before a single work is considered, a collection needs a point of view. We work with you to define what the collection is about — period, medium, region, idea — and to set priorities that will hold up over years rather than seasons. The result is a clear, written understanding of scope, gaps and pacing.
For new collectors, this means establishing a direction before habits form. For established collections, it often means stepping back, taking inventory of what is truly working, and deciding what to deepen, pause or release. Strategy is revisited as the collection, and the collector, change.
Acquisition advisory & research
When a work enters your orbit — at a gallery, an auction, an estate or a private sale — we provide independent research before you commit: provenance and exhibition history, condition considerations, comparable works and the questions worth asking of any seller.
We can attend viewings on your behalf, liaise with sellers and support negotiation, always acting solely in your interest. Because we sell nothing and take no commissions, our only measure of success is whether a work belongs in your collection.
Collection care & documentation
Documentation is the quiet backbone of a well-kept collection. We catalogue works, maintain condition records, organize invoices, certificates and correspondence, and keep the file current as works move, are loaned or are conserved.
We also coordinate with conservators, framers, registrars and insurers, and advise on storage, display, handling and transport — so that care is not left to improvisation. When formal valuations are required for insurance or other purposes, we help you engage qualified independent appraisers.
Transition & estate coordination
Collections outlive their makers, and the arrangements made early are the kindest ones. We help families think through inheritance, gifting, donation and dispersal while there is time to choose rather than react, coordinating with attorneys, accountants and institutions.
When a transition is already underway, we bring order to it: inventory, records, condition oversight and calm communication among all parties, so decisions are made with the same care that built the collection.
